Richard Cross – Trauma Responsive Practice – Opportunities and Challenges
Join Humphrey Hawksley in conversation with Richard Cross on trauma responsive practice. A registered psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience, Richard specialises in relational approaches to address attachment, trauma, and dissociation. His early career focused on developing therapeutic programmes within correctional settings, piloting innovative violence reduction and rehabilitation models democratic therapeutic communities for high-risk, life-sentenced offenders.
A pioneer of trauma-informed practice in the UK, Richard worked with Sandra Bloom in 2004 to introduce the Sanctuary Model. He has since developed Attachment and Trauma-Informed Care; a comprehensive model now implemented across multiple residential child care settings.
Richard continues to lead in clinical innovation and organisational development, providing consultancy, training, and supervision to professionals and organisations. He directs clinical teams at Five Rivers Child Care and is a Fellow and Faculty member of the International Society for Trauma and Dissociation, a trustee of the Bowlby Centre, and an active trainer of psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists.
